As a full-service interior designer in Upstate New York, Trudi Smith Designs creates thoughtful homes rooted in interior architecture and renovation—designed to support the way you live, both now and over time. As a CAPS (Certified Aging in Place)–certified designer with a background in Architectural Design, Trudi brings a deep understanding of how spaces should work, feel, and evolve with you.
Her work is grounded in the belief that good design improves daily life—often in ways you don’t immediately notice, but always feel. Inspired by Upstate New York’s historic homes and distinctive structures, she creates spaces that balance character, longevity, and a quiet sense of ease.
From an early age, Trudi was drawn to building and problem-solving. Childhood projects and school shop classes shaped a hands-on, practical approach that still guides her work today—designing homes that feel considered, personal, and supportive of everyday living.
While Trudi leads each project as the sole designer, she collaborates closely with a trusted network of contractors, artisans, and specialists. This approach allows her to deliver highly personalized design with the strength and expertise of a well-coordinated team.
In addition to her design work, Trudi currently serves as President of the Central New York chapter of the National Kitchen & Bath Association, contributing to the advancement of the industry and supporting the next generation of designers.
At its core, her work is about creating homes that support connection—spaces where life unfolds naturally, memories are made, and everything simply feels right. Whether kayaking with her husband or gathering around a campfire with family, these moments continue to shape her perspective and her work.
